Helping to break down barriers to breast cancer care…

The Brief:

We were invited to collaborate on a powerful community-led project with researchers at the University of Manchester, exploring how storytelling, creativity and cultural connection can help address the barriers to breast screening in ethnically minoritised communities. Centred around the symbolic “Tree of Life”, the work took place in Oldham and brought together small groups of South Asian women to reflect on their own life journeys through creative arts.

Our job was to capture these stories and bring them to life through a video installation that honoured the honesty, courage and beauty of what was shared. The tree became a metaphor, with each woman’s journey forming part of a wider narrative that explored identity, family, health and heritage. Through sensitive interviews and a calm, reflective visual approach, we helped share these individual stories in a way that felt both personal and universal. The final film became more than just documentation, it was a heartfelt invitation for others to tune into their bodies, speak openly and take ownership of their health. It was a privilege to be part of such a meaningful project, using film as a tool for empathy, awareness and positive change.
