The University of Manchester – Quiet Heroes
“I’ve just watched the film now and – wow. Visually stunning and really well put together.” Tony Walsh
The Brief: We were commissioned by the University of Manchester and poet Tony Walsh to create a short film as part of a broader campaign celebrating innovation in Manchester’s engineering sector. The main goal was to make a visually striking piece at the new MECD building that put engineering on the map and showcased Manchester’s pioneering spirit. And who better to voice it than Tony, a local legend whose poem captures the city’s soul.
The project was part of a larger campaign with multiple assets including behind-the-scenes content, social media clips and potentially longer-format materials to support a strong multi-channel rollout. We captured students and facilities across labs and workshops, showing everything from building robots to 3D printing, while weaving in Tony’s live narration to bring the story to life. The aim was to create something powerful, inspiring and unmistakably Mancunian, all while keeping it in line with the broader campaign’s message and visual style.
